Trebbiolo Rosso La Stoppa, 2020
Looking for a fruity berry blast with a hint of horse stables? Then this is your bottle. There are few times in life where you connect the aroma of horse stables with something delicious, well, this is one of those times. For you fellow natural wine lovers this is no news. Trebbiolo Rosso is a completely naturally produced red wine from the winemaker Elena Pantaleoni and the estate La Stoppa in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. Elena is known for making high quality and outstanding wine, the estate produces red, orange and sweet wine mainly form Barbera, Merlot, Semillion and other regional grape varieties. If you ever come across their orange wine Ageno La Stoppa – grab. It.
Back to the Trebbiolo. I love a good surprise, and this was just that. First of all I didn’t really know what the bottle contained except form grape variety, but I know of the winemaker so I thought let’s try. Opening the bottle, what first hit you, was the classic smell of a natural wine (i.e., stables), and quite intensely so. But then at first sip, BERRY. But nuanced berry, very well balanced with some complexity and different levels of herbs, spice and acidity. Just a lovely wine.
